About Thinkspace
Thinkspace Projects was founded in 2005; now in LA’s burgeoning West Adams District, the gallery has garnered an international reputation as one of the most active and productive exponents of the New Contemporary Art Movement. Maintaining its founding commitment to the promotion and support of its artists, Thinkspace has steadily expanded its roster and diversified its projects, creating collaborative and institutional opportunities all over the world. Founded in the spirit of forging recognition for young, emerging, and lesser-known talents, the gallery is now home to artists from all over the world, ranging from the emerging, mid-career, and established.
The New Contemporary Art Movement, not unlike its earlier 20th Century counterparts like Surrealism, Dada, or Fauvism, ultimately materialized in search of new forms, content, and expressions that cited rather than disavowed the individual and the social. The earliest incarnations of the Movement, refusing the paradigmatic disinterest of “Art” as an inaccessible garrison of ‘high culture’, championed figuration, surrealism, representation, pop culture, and the subcultural. By incorporating the ‘lowbrow,’ accessible, and even profane, an exciting and irreverent art movement grew in defiance of the mandated renunciations of “high” art. Emerging on the West Coast in the 90’s partly as a response to the rabid ‘conceptual-turn’ then championed on the East Coasts, the Movement steadily created its own platforms, publications, and spaces for the dissemination of its imagery and ideas.
Though the New Contemporary Art Movement has remained largely unacknowledged by the vetted institutions of the fine art world and its arbiters of ‘high culture,’ the future promises a shift. The Movement’s formative aversion to the establishment is also waning in the wake of its increased visibility, institutional presence, and widespread popularity.
Thinkspace has sought to champion and promote the unique breadth of the Movement, creating new opportunities for the presentation of its artists and work. Though still very much invested in the elevation and exposure of its emerging talents, the gallery, now in its 18th year, has come into its own with a roster that reflects this maturity. An active advocate for what is now one of the longest extant organized art movement’s in history, Thinkspace is an established voice for its continued growth and evolution.
The gallery has in recent years expanded its projects beyond Los Angeles, exhibiting with partner galleries and organizations in Berlin, Hong Kong, London, New York City, Detroit, Chicago, and Honolulu among many others, participating in International Art Fairs, and curating New Contemporary content for Museums. Committed to the vision, risk, and exceptional gifts of its artists, the gallery is first and foremost a family. From the streets to the museums, and from the “margins” to the white cube, Thinkspace is re-envisioning what it means to be “institutional.”

Thinkspace is always looking to contribute, host or take on new projects in or outside of our space. We pride ourselves on our institutional endeavors and have curated exhibitions for the likes of the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona; the Urban Nation Museum in Berlin, Germany; the Brand Library and Arts Center in Glendale, California; the Long Beach Museum of Art in Long Beach, California; the Ft. Wayne Museum of Art in Ft. Wayne, Indiana; the Fullerton Museum Center in Fullerton, California; the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster and the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Mesa, Arizona.
We also work in tandem with other galleries the world over, presenting curated exhibitions showcasing the breadth of the New Contemporary Movement. Past partners include Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong, Vertical Gallery in Chicago, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco, Stolen Space in London, ABV Gallery in Atlanta, Heron Arts in San Francisco, Antler Gallery in Portland, along with many others. We love to collaborate with like-minded creatives.
Looking for a mural artist? We have helped to produce dozens upon dozens of murals the world over. We work closely with the POW! WOW! Worldwide mural festival as well as hosting and curating POW! WOW! Antelope Valley up in Lancaster, California in partnership with the Lancaster Museum of Art and History. We also curate and work closely with the Rail Arts District of the Napa Valley (RAD Napa) region up in Northern California. We are constantly in touch with many of the leading muralists traveling the globe and we can always help bring any project, big or small, to life. We can simply curate the artist, or run the entire production, here to discuss with you and make the most of your budget and bring your ideas to life.
If you are a corporate sponsor interested in underwriting one of our shows or bringing a show to our area that’s touring to different cities, then please reach out to see what we may be able to work out. At the very least, we may be able to help you promote your event locally via our network of connections or help you find a venue that we can perhaps help to co-present.
Many of the artists we work with are available for commissions and art licensing (for film, TV, advertising, etc.), so please inquire if you have any questions in regards to that.
We also consult for large acquisitions and installations for realtors, businesses, restaurants and retail locations. We will strive to meet any creative request, and via our network of artists, odds are we can bring your concept to life – whether it be a vague idea or an elaborate vision.
Purchase Inquiries
The original works offered on these pages are available for sale through the gallery and can be purchased by phone or via email. Featured here is a collection of work by our artists that has been produced outside of regular exhibits or is still on hand from recent exhibitions. We strive to keep the page updated regularly, but please know it’s always best to check before sending us over any funds. We have strong relationships with the artists we work with, so please let us know if there is something in particular you have in mind from a certain artist, and we can try to help facilitate that for you.
As for payment, Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted at the gallery and you can also PayPal us (please arrange in advance via email – contact@thinkspaceprojects.com). We also accept wire transfers, checks and money orders. Please contact us for availability prior to sending in payment via mail though. All payments via check will be held until the check clears our bank. California residents will be required to add 10.25% for sales tax.
Please keep in mind works will usually ship out 2-3 weeks after the exhibit has been taken down. We ship most of our work via UPS Insured ground home delivery. Additional charges for shipping will be added for each order, so please get in touch if contacting us from out of state. Please note that these charges also include shipping materials and extra time required to safely send your order. We will ship anywhere in the world, as long as we are able to track the package to you and confirm payment before the works ship out. For international shipments we can arrange transit on a case by case basis. For more information or to inquire further about art sales, please call 310.558.3375, or shoot us an e-mail to contact@thinkspaceprojects.com. All available works in our inventory are updated regularly and are located in the ‘Inventory’ section. Thank you for your patronage.
Please note: Original works of art are non-returnable. If you purchase a work, and decide, for any reason, that you have to back out, we can work with you to resell the piece through our gallery via a small commission, but please know that outright returns at the end of an exhibition, or at any other time, are just not possible. Please also note that once a payment plan has been entered into, we can not back out of or refund any payments.
Submissions
Thinkspace is not actively seeking submissions from new artists at this time. However, we are always interested in being exposed to new artists. So if you would like to submit artwork, please do make sure it fits our criteria. We strive to feature the best that the current movement (i.e. new contemporary, pop surrealism, outsider, graffiti, street art, etc.) has to offer, and we are always on the lookout for artists who push the boundaries on their way to building an established audience.
If you are going to send us samples of your work, email is preferred. If you do not have a computer as one of your resources, you can send quality print outs along with a SASE. Please note we will not return your prints unless you provide a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope).
When time permits, we may get back in touch with you via e-mail, but please know we do not possess the time nor the resources to provide feedback to all those that submit work to us. There are several factors in play that dictate what makes it into our exhibition schedule, so please keep that in mind. We are currently booked through 2024, so please understand that our program is full for the time being, but it never hurts to make contact.
